Frequently Asked Questions

You've got questions. we've got answers.

Find answers to the most common questions about our lawn care, landscape design, lighting, and snow and ice management services. We help homeowners and businesses understand what to expect from our process, pricing, scheduling, and year round property care. If you need more details, our team is always here to help.

How short should you mow my grass?

We recommend mowing no shorter than 3 inches, and we never remove more than one-third of the grass blade in a single cut. Mowing too short can stress the lawn, invite weeds, and cause uneven growth — so our crews adjust blade height and frequency based on season and grass type to keep your lawn healthy and vibrant.

How much should I water my lawn and when?

Water needs vary by season, but as a general rule: during dry, hot weather, lawns should receive about 1.5–2 inches per week (from rain or irrigation) — ideally delivered in one or two deep waterings early in the morning. Overwatering or frequent shallow watering can make roots shallow, reduce drought-resistance, and invite disease. If you let us know your sprinkler setup or lawn irrigation needs, we can help you dial in an ideal schedule for your yard.

If I want landscape design or hardscape work done, how do we get started — and how long does the process take?

It begins with a complimentary on-site consultation: we talk through your vision, how you plan to use the space, your style preferences, and your budget. After that, we’ll provide a custom design and proposal. Once approved, installation scheduling depends on project scope and season — smaller plantings or lighting work may be completed in a few days, while full hardscape jobs (like patios or retaining walls) could take several weeks from start to finish. We’ll always give you a realistic timeline up front.

Do I need to prepare my property before your crew arrives — for maintenance or for installations?

For maintenance: Please clear toys, furniture, pet items, and any obstacles from lawns and walkways so our crews can work efficiently and safely. For installations (hardscape, lighting, design): We may ask that vehicles be moved away from the work zone, and that pets be secured indoors. If there are sprinklers, irrigation, or underground utilities on the property, we’ll need clear access — and we’ll communicate any prep steps well in advance.

What sets Superior Lawn Care and Landscaping apart from cheaper “cut-rate” lawn services?

We emphasize quality, consistency, and expertise. Rather than cutting corners, we use properly maintained equipment, trained crews, and best practices for mowing, soil care, design, and installation. For installations, we focus on lasting results — from properly prepared hardscape bases to smart drainage, quality materials, and workmanship that will stand up to Wisconsin’s seasons. In short: our services are an investment in your property’s long-term health and value — not just a quick job.
